The injured have been identified as Saravanan and Sankar.
The MUV, driven by a youth, was going towards the Central bus stand. It took a sudden right turn, posing danger to motorists and pedestrians. While many people moved to safety, Saravanan and Sankar who were standing near the traffic island at the end of Warner’s Road abetting Williams’ Road failed to notice the MUV.
The vehicle hit them. It hit two motorcycles that were parked near the traffic island. The MUV came to a halt after ramming the compound wall of the income tax office.
The youth who was driving MUV escaped without any injury since the airbags in the vehicle were deployed.
The injured men were admitted to Mahatma Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.
Police were investigating.
